Picked Sound: Dekmantel Podcast 233 – Mozhgan

Iranian born Mozhgan has a love of dark and ghoulish sounds that always play out when she’s on the decks. In 2011, she started her own We Are Monsters party in San Francisco and it very much went against the grain, mostly thanks to her own definitive sets which draw on 80s synths and vintage hardware as well as exotic and ethnic rhythms, cold wave sounds and industrial textures. Since then she has established herself on the global circuit with sets at cult places like Burning Man and Panorama Bar.

She will join us at Dekmantel Selectors later this summer and tastes us with what to expect with this new mix. It’s a rugged and low slung affair with jerking body music and frosted synths making for an alien vibe throughout. While often abstract and desolate, there are moments of sci-fi beauty and heady depths along the way that make this mix a cinematic experience from start to finish.

[Release Note]
Welcoming back Serbian producer Tebra for yet another EP of his progressive ethnic music. A year has passed since we released Krug EP and it was just the right time for some new music from one of our favorite producers. This new record features two original tracks: Helm and Mesečina.

Helm opens up with a clean sounding string arpeggio revealing itself slowly throughout the introduction. Oud melodies take over for a few bars, setting an eastern scenery and eventually leading to a minimal yet heavy drop. The piece evolves with taste as we go through enriched versions of these three sections. The atmospheric textures and vocals of the break complete this sumptuous journey through eastern electronic beats.

Mesečina emphasizes on oriental string melodies thoroughly supported by a bouncing low-end. Interesting ethnic percussions grooves and female vocals take over during the calmer parts of the piece, conveying a longing for new springs in remote places.

This time, we are gifted with remixes from two experienced producers whose work we admire. Raw Main has crafted a groovy alternative to ‘Helm’ sublimed with mind blowing synth arpeggios.

Timboletti has once again succeeded at delivering an insanely well produced remix. Beats merge with synths in a beautiful and precise way. There is a lot to discover in this rich soundscape, making sure Timboletti’s version will suit both home listeners and dancefloors enthusiasts.

sound(ge)cloud 115 by Hilary Mertaugh – california sunshine

sound(ge)cloud 115 by Hilary Mertaugh (http://bit.ly/2A0uWbb) – california sunshine

Euer Uwe

PREMIERE: Katabtu – Eternity [ LNDKHN ]

Artist: http://bit.ly/2TtGImD
Remixers: Dolph, Menachem 26, The Oddness
Title: Eternity
Label: Landikhan/ http://bit.ly/2nrGXlq
Cat. No.: LNDKHN022
Format: Digital Download
Release Date: June 6th 2019

“When music transcends borders, genres and worlds, eternity is just the beginning. The very first EP from the up and coming producer and live performing artist Katabtu includes two original mixes and three remixes and will be released on the 6th of June on LNDKHN. The title track “Eternity” delivers a deep and progressive punch coupled with atmospheric textures and dynamic synths to bring a wide range of musical enthusiasts the sound that evokes their emotions and moves their body. Menachem 26 is showing us in his remix how well world music and squirky acid house synths fit together and how it can create music where you just want to dance all night long. The well-known artist Dolph has turned the track on its head and brings a completely new interpretation to the table that, besides of being a great piece of music, is great to keep the vibe going on the dancefloor. The third remix by The Oddness from Australia is making it complete with those analog retro drums that are perfectly suited to get your body swinging and shaking. To finish it off, Katabtu delivers “Gloam”, another original mix that shows that Downtempo/ Electronica music really has no creative limits. You can hear how a Grand Piano break in the middle and a fulminant synthesizer finale at the end can coexist with funk, swing and good old electronic beats.
