Pophop and Seba Campos present the music for a road movie that has not been shot yet, but lis-ten-ing to these two tracks makes us protagonists anyway. The powerful drone of the offbeat enginesends us cruising through the liquid light of an afternoon in a mediterranean, or maybe Latin Americanlandscape. A dusty sign at the shoulder of the street readsEsperanza. The warm headwind carries thepromise of freedom, possibility and high spirits. We shift up a gear and roar beyond the horizon, ontothe high plain ofDistancia. When the first stars begin to twinkle in the cloudless sky we arrive betweenthe lights, ribbons and the friendly faces of a fiesta that is just about to get started.

Thomas Fehlmann – Umarmt (Kompakt 432.1)

Buy/stream: https://ift.tt/3lg6R7E

On April 9th, Berlin based Thomas Fehlmann returns with his new album Böser Herbst. Produced as the soundtrack to a documentary made by Volker Heise, ‘Herbst 1929, Schatten Über Babylon’, which offers historical insight to the third season of the television series Babylon Berlin. It adds yet another string to the bow of this most forward-thinking and creative artist, whose history takes in NDW (Palais Schaumburg), techno (3MB) and psychedelic ambience (The Orb), plus a clutch of gorgeous solo albums that explore wide terrain, from the dancefloor through supine home listening to compelling soundtrack work.

Be lifted into the air by the glassy drones of “Umarmt”. It’s a music of temporal disjuncture and clairvoyant resonance, “speaking with the past – alert, distant and quixotic.” A taste of what is soon to come.

3 QUESTIONS to LEXER:

Q: Getting deeper into your mix – how did these tracks shape your life and what do they still mean to you?

A: There are a few tracks that I started with when I first really listened and felt music. For example MJ, that was my childhood. When I was 6 years old, I was at a live concert of him. Unforgettable. He influenced me musically the most. Furthermore, there are tracks that I played at the beginning of my DJ career. So it is a nice mix of my childhood music and music that I played with my first DJ knowledge.

Q: What did you do since the lockdown has started a year ago?

A: I think like almost everyone I’ve worked on an album. Now that I’ve finished that, I’m busy working on new originals for occasional releases.

Q: Which future projects are on the way?

A: I am starting my own label together with my friend Tom Zeta. This will be a platform for our own music and later we want to release music from other artists on it. But for now the focus is on our own music.

Tooker – Nang’o feat. Labdi

For Chris Tooker, the first decade of his artistic journey was immersed in bands while the second was engaged in wandering the realms of electronica in the form of creator, composer and engineer for DJ duo KMLN.

Today, after many incarnations, Tooker returns to the source of himself while carrying both the treasures of his past and a vision for the future. Tooker has long been called to pursuing obsessive trails through the greater cosmos. On these journeys, he seeks particles with a hypnotic essence. Once found, he interprets this magic in his own special way, through the most universal language – music.
Tooker’s music tells stories of fascinating adventures through the dust, the palms and the gritty streets of yonder. To Acid Pauli and Nico Stojan’s label Ouie, he brings a memento of sorts with his stunning debut EP Nang’o which took form during an immersive trip to East Africa. Founding adventure and travel collective Kultur, a nine-day expedition to Kenya was the first Tooker organised. Created to discover the marvels of life through bonding adventures, nature, music, art and traditions, the trip included safaris in the Savanna, workshops, culinary experiences, island trips and festival Kilifi to see in the New Year.

After the trip, he took three weeks off in Nairobi. Eager to collaborate with Kenyan musicians, he connected with a woman he’d met at the festival who sent him music from over a 100 artists. Whittling the talented selection down to ten, he booked a studio for a week and hooked up with Labdi, the multi-instrumentalist who features on the EP.

Labdi’s phenomenal talents can be heard in lead track Nang’o. Her route (a western Kenyan fiddle instrument) and bewitching vocals provide the hooks for this subtle, shuffling track, presented here as both a full version and as an instrumental.

Baladi features Shawna Hofmann both on co-production and vocal duties – this time a more driving, rolling groove develops with Shawna adding sultry, evocative vocals to the mix.

Undone rounds off the physical release – another signature exercise in subtlety and restraint, as an infectious groove folds in bubbling synths, crisp percussion and dubby effects.

The digital release also offers extra radio edits of Nang’o and Baladi, as well as a new track, Era featuring Erodisma. This builds its power via a insistant kick and arpeggiated synth line, before revealing soft chords and live-recorded guitars.

Blanka Mazimela Feat. Korus & Sobantwana – Gcwanini (MoBlack Remix) (Snippet)

https://ift.tt/2OnobMg

Get Physical revisit their Africa Gets Physical compilation this March as they invite MoBlack to remix Blanka Mazimela’s track ‘Gcwanini’.

Last year saw the arrival of Get Physical’s third edition to their much loved ‘Africa Gets Physical’ series. One of the essential tracks was from album compiler Blanka Mazimela, which saw the rising South-African talent collaborate with Korus and Sobantwana on this incredible afrobeat offering, backed by a stunning official music video set in his home town of Cape-Town.

The remixer, MoBlack, is a globally renowned DJ and producer within the electronic music scene. He has remixed the work of Cameplhat and Girls of the Internet, whilst gaining support from Black Coffee, Solomun and BBC Radio 1’s Pete Tong.

MoBlack’s interpretation is a deep and harmonising affair with an understated musicality providing the perfect soundbed for the original’s dynamic and flawless vocals. Tender chords, uplifting atmospheres and vibrant percussion play together below the surface as soaring pads combine with bubbling basslines on this hypnotic journey.

Penner+Muder – Heart & Sold (SIRS Remix) [Snippet]

After ‘The Long Awaited Comeback’ of/by Penner+Muder, we are now treated to ‘The Long Awaited Remixes’. And here is remix number one.
It comes courtesy of Mr Daniel Klein aka SIRS (Sounds In Real Stereo), who has made quite the name for himself amongst top tier artists in the realm of disco infused club music, with supporters including Black Coffee, Purple Disco Machine and The Black Madonna.
His remix of ‘Heart And Sold’ is absolutely true to form. Right off the bat, an irresistible groove lays the groundwork for a cheekily syncopated synth bass and echoing 80s stabs, quickly building up the track to maximum bounce. Breaking down to a sweet little vocal cut and with grin-inducing piano chords making their way towards centrestage, nothing can go wrong from here and all that’s needed is for SIRS to bring back the beats and complete this stylish crowd-pleaser.
