Culture Villè – Oslo EP

Another wonderfully deep, melodious and evocative creation. Opening with the hazy clouded deep house chug in the title track ‘Oslo’, the distant, pulsating chords and off set rhythm cut through this in their second, ’Toulouse’. The third track is a gritty, darker affair titled ‘Som’, and to close, ‘Joni’, with intricate drums upfront to lead warm chords, vocal samples and a minimal percussive groove.

Blue Fields – Swimming In The Shadows

Blue Fields - Swimming In The Shadows

Blue Fields
Swimming In The Shadows

The tides are turning for Mike Shannon and Takeshi Nishimoto, back with their second collaborative effort as Blue Fields. A project that debuted under Shannon’s own Haunt Music in 2012 with Ghost Story, their second album, Swimming in the Shadows is a deeper, more experimental piece that focuses on change, memory, and movement.

Completed over the course of four years, Swimming in the Shadows was written and recorded in Berlin, with Shannon behind production and sound design, and Nishimoto on guitar. Influenced by the turning of leaves and life’s inevitable transformations, Swimming in the Shadows swelters with feelings of deep unrest and sounds heavy with emotion.

Opening numbers “Paper Cuts” and “Falling in Deep” set the pace with dreamy, looping melodies and Parisian singer Ilhem Khodja’s hazy vocals. The momentum builds with darker, driving grooves and mutating synths — Cobblestone Jazz’s Danuel Tate, on the Rhodes, Vocoder and Moog Bass, features on the album’s stand out “I Felt That It Was True.” The album moves into more melancholy territory with “The Breeze Through The Floor” and the closing piece “Paper Ghost” as moments of distortion and deranged off-key tones melt back into the duo’s familiar pretty, underwater-like sounds.

Tracklisting

1. Intro
2. Paper Cut featuring Ilhem
3. Falling In Deep
4. Slipped Through My Fingers
5. On The Stairs featuring Ilhem
6. I Felt That It Was True featuring Danuel Tate

Chris Wayfarer – On The Move

After the first release of Daniel Stefanik on Ace Up My Sleeve Records, here’s the second round with Chris Wayfare. Already 14 years ago, Chris was well known in the in the national Drum’n’Bass scene as Mr. Lettuce. As Chris Wayfarer, his sounds is more or less ol’ classic Techno and House in such a way, that a melodious brew with a huge portion of groove is being created. He found two tracks, that he could provide us with.

“On The Move” is a crystal-clear stomper with a phat bassline, oldschool beats and a truly thunder of effects. The second track is called “Copy & Paste” and is both a playful and experimental Techno-Electronica piece of music with a slight Kalkbrenner attitude and a warm melody embracing piano sounds and a catchy melody. Chris is always on the move!

Label: Ace Up My Sleeve Records, AUMS002
Release Date: February 2017
