HMWL Premiere: King Ben – Un Verre De Rosé

Zurich’s King Ben brings some smooth and sophisticated house sounds to two new tracks on Kindisch.

At one time, Ben was Switzerland’s youngest DJ having secured a gig at the legendary Sputnik Radio aged just 13. From there he has developed his own signature deep house sound, rich in melody and with plenty of fresh grooves. He has promoted numerous parties back home and held residencies in places like Silo and Zoo Club. He has landed on the likes of WAYU, Bar 25 and this label before now and makes a welcome return to kick off his 2022.

Up first is the stylish ‘Un Verre De Rosé,’ an eight-minute symphony of cuddly synth work and wispy chords. Wordless vocal coos deepen the mood and daubs of melodic colour rise and fall like lava in a lamp. Add in the soft and seductive grooves and you have a brilliantly hypnotic track.

‘Autumn Leaves’ is just as exquisitely designed but with a more brooding mood. The drums stand taller, with rubbery synth sequences rising up and down the mix next to melancholic pads. There are deft details all around, from the subtle vocal wails to the woodblock hits via the warming sub-bass.

‘Un Verre De Rosé’ proves Ben is a master of escapist house music for quiet hours and cosy dance floors.

Kindisch welcome El Mundo & Zazou for the latest edition of ‘Kindish Stories’ with a fresh series of remixes that show off their broad skills. They made a big impression with their excellent ‘Can You See What I See’ track as part of the Words Don’t Come Easy compilation on Get Physical last year. Following a re-release of the single with new remixes, they now come on strong on Kindisch with new and fantastic original versions of tracks by Art of Life, Feathered Sun, Lunar Disco and many more.

The pair kick off with their own ambient sci fi opener ‘Intro’ then serve up an epic slow motion deep house adventure with their loose and organic remix of ‘He Is Behind Your Eyes.’ The gorgeously deep and soulful grooves stay through the languid ‘Get On’ remix and their standout take on ‘Revenge Of The Wankers’ is a chugging, hypnotic affair with a mesmerising lead synth line.

The second half of the terrific musical trip features more spine-tingling deep house with tropical jungle overtones, sparse and absorbing late night grooves as with their remix of Amir Telem’s ‘Words from the Spiritual World’, featured here today, and ‘Effigy’, with uplifting, synth-lead classiness on a closing remix of ‘Alexithymia’. This is a warm, cathartic listen that takes you deep into El Mundo & Zazou’s emotional world of self-reflection and melancholia in real style.

Kora, Adriēn – Nuit D’Afrique

Kindisch Steps VI is coming: with all the usual suspects, YokoO, Satori, LUM, Marcelo Cura and In Colour as well some fresh new faces. Some of the new journeys include ‘Nuit d’Afrique’, a gentle track created by Kora and Adrien that takes us down a vivid path of perception and rhythm. Dead Tones turn up the heat a bit with ‘Saturns Compassion’, another very dusty and organic track sprinkled with an electric touch. Borzoo sends us to the dancefloor with a gritty ride through his synthetic masterpiece ‘Filarmónica’. Lepus 8’s track pulls away and open up the ceiling to reveal the stars in a big and airy track called ‘Broken Democrasy’ before Kora takes it back down to earth in a minimalistic tribal atmosphere. We look forward to what the new year brings and are excited to meet new friends and bring you more stunning works along the way
